I Still Love My Wife

Posted by: Darin Manis in Untagged  on

As of today my wife and I have been married for 14 years. I asked a beautiful (and evidently confused) woman to marry me on April Fools day and we got married on Labor Day weekend. As I reflect on our years together I can see that these “holidays” were a sign of things to come. There have been many times during our marriage that I have been a fool and as many times again that we had to labor through things together.

What Labor Day Represents to Me

Posted by: Dave Wilson in Untagged  on

Labor Day represents many different things to me. Although I am in the recruiting business the actual original intent of the holiday has never been my focus. Labor Day has been a holiday since 1894. It was created to provide a day off for working citizens. Although trade and labor organizations had their original intent for the celebration of workers contributions it seems like today Labor Day has taken on new meanings for the most of us.

If you are serious about impressing the firms you are wanting to interview with and are willing to invest a bit of time and creativity, one great way to enhance your professional image is with your own personal website.  I am not talking about a MySpace page or a facebook page. I am speaking of a URL address that is your web page. Your name ending with .com.

From a human capital viewpoint in the financial-services industry, good news has been hard to find. We have been waiting for a major powerhouse to draw a line in the sand and say, “For now, we are done with layoffs, and we see the light at the end of the tunnel.” Morgan Stanley drew such a line recently. Morgan Stanley said that it is not only done cutting jobs but they are going back on offense.

We are seeing a faint but noticeable change with many of our client’s perception of the human capital marketplace.

If you are qualified for the position you are interviewing for, and you are interviewing along with several other candidates, let me share with you how to get a big competitive advantage over the others you are going up against. It revolves around asking the right questions.

Hundreds of questions are great to ask when you are interviewing a candidate; there are just as many that are not great to ask. Four questions we have been hearing being asked in interviews we recommend should not be asked of the candidate. There are always exceptions, but as a general rule we advise not to ask these 4 questions.

You Lie, You Die

Okay, you don't die, but your job does. Be truthful about your accomplishments and background both verbally and especially what is written on your resume. Financial services firms always do background checks.
