Remembering over two million dead and woundedPosted by Darin Manis on May 31, 2010 |
All of us at RJ & Makay would like to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Memorial holiday weekend. This is a fun time for cookouts, camping, and kicking off the summer but most importantly a time to appreciate veterans, especially those that made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Around 1.2 million Americans have lost their lives in wars. Over 600,000 in the Civil War; 400,000+ in World War II; 100,000+ in World War I; over 50,000 each in both Korea and Vietnam; and over 5,000 on the current war against terror. When you include dead and wounded there are more than two million military casualties.
Abraham Lincoln memorialized the sacrifices our soldiers have made best in Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. Here is the text of his two minute speech as it appears on the Lincoln Monument in Washington, D. C.
