CEO confidence continues to rise

CEO confidence continues to riseChief executives' confidence in the economy is up again, shows the latest reading on the Conference Board Measure of CEO Confidence. The measure rose to 67 in the first quarter, up from 62 in the fourth quarter of 2010. A reading above 50 indicates a positive outlook, the Conference Board says.

“CEOs’ confidence has improved, yet again, and expectations are that the economy will continue to expand in the coming months,” remarks Lynn Franco, director of The Conference Board Consumer Research Center. “As for the employment outlook, CEOs are more bullish than last year, with half now saying they intend to ramp up hiring.”

Republicans look to amend, repeal parts of Dodd-FrankAs part of their opposition to the Dodd-Frank financial reform law enacted last July in response to the financial crisis, Congressional Republicans plan to introduce four bills Wednesday that would repeal or amend parts of the new law.

"It's the first direct assault,'' a congressional aide says. ''Up until now it's been about trying to deprive the agencies of what they need to implement Dodd-Frank.''

Media executive pay hypocrisy?

The media has been lamenting about the executive bonuses on Wall Street especially hard last year. The general theme: Execs shouldn't get bonuses if their firms aren't performing well. I think most of the general public buys into performance based bonuses. Bonuses given in proportion to the revenues, profits or other defined set of goals does sound logical.
