Financial advisors that lack a website could be caught short when prospective clients ask to see their website. A 2011 Fidelity survey found that 44% of millionaires use the Internet to shop for an advisor. While some advisors are leveraging social media to tap into this market, many other advisors don’t even have a business website.

Assumptions for 2012 market portfolio returns vary between advisors and their clients, according to the most recent Russell Financial Professional Outlook (FPO) survey. Surveyed advisors on average expect 3.9% returns for a conservative portfolio, 5.9% for a balanced portfolio and 8.3% for an aggressive portfolio. Polled advisors say their clients have even higher expectations for their investments.
Financial advisors that cater to the wealthy should carefully follow global news that could impact clients’ portfolios and be ready to justify their decisions in close communication with those clients, according to a recent survey by Spectrem Group, a company that specializes in retirement for the affluent. The survey measured the responses of 1,146 wealthy investors with $1 million in investable assets about their investment attitudes and where they look to for advice.
