The recession and financial crises of 2008-2009 has had a big impact on the retirement plans of  Americans age 55 and older.  A decade ago, this group of pre-retirement and retirement-age citizens expected to retire at age 64.  Now, on average, they expect to retire five years later, at age 69, according to The Sun America Retirement Re-set Study based on a recent Harris Interactive survey conducted for SunAmerica.

How did millionaire investors manage their assets through the recession, and how are they investing today? The U.S. Bank Private Client Reserve of U.S. Bank has published its  Millionaire Investor Insights Annual Survey , which gives us some idea of how this group made it though and where things now stand. The national survey was conducted online for the bank by Harris Interactive between September 27 and October 15, 2010 and includes research from 1,609 respondents in an oversample of eight metropolitan –area markets. Respondents were age 18 or older with $1 million or more in household investable assets, with the exclusion of primary or secondary residences, and assets held in employer-sponsored retirement plans.
