Despite economic and industry challenges, independent insurance agencies have remained a robust group overall according to a new study of independent agencies operating in the U.S., entitled the 2010 Agency Universe Study (AUS) by Future One, in collaboration with the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America (IIABA or the Big “I”) and independent agency companies.

If nothing else, the industry has remained stable. Findings show that there are as many agencies today as there were in 2006, due to start-ups, numbering 37,500 total, keeping pace with agency mergers and closings.
