Life combination products grew by 56% in 2011, the third consecutive year of double-digit growth, according to LIMRA’s 2011 Individual Life Combination Products Annual Review. Life combination products total new premium reached $2.2 billion in 2011, representing about 13% of total individual life insurance new premium. Last year, more than 72,000 combination policies were sold, representing approximately 16% of all long-term care insurance policies and contracts.

A study by the Kauffman Foundation shows that the number of IPOs can directly affect economic growth, according to the study “fast growing entrepreneurial firms create the nation’s most significant employment.” The recent slowdown of IPOs from small companies has “negatively affected aggregate employment.” From 1996 to 2010, 2,766 companies went public in the United States.
Workers over the age of 25 and who have some college are the majority unemployed, compared to people who only have a high school diploma or less. The Labor Department said that for the 9 million unemployed in April, 4.3 million had not attended college. 4.7 million of the unemployed had gone to college. One reason for this shift is that more people are attending college and people without a high school diploma have decreased.
