When it comes to being financially prepared for retirement, Americans are a lot like the various stock market sectors -- all over the place.

Take energy stocks. Some have had a great 2010, like U.S. oil giant ConocoPhilips, which is up double digits. Other energy companies, such as Russian oil producer Lukoil, have gone virtually nowhere. Still others, like Brazilian energy behemoth PetroBras, have lost double digits.
