A new Pew Research Center poll has found that 50% of survey recipients view capitalism as positive while 40% see it in a negative light. The numbers represent a slight decline from 2010, when capitalism came in at 52% positive and 37% negative. The poll also sought survey recipients’ opinions on libertarianism, conservatism, liberalism and socialism.

The wealth gap between younger and older Americans has grown to the widest in history, compounded by a prolonged economic downturn that has lessened job opportunities for young adults and saddled them with housing and college debt. According to Census Bureau data released Monday, typical U.S. households headed by a person age 65 or older have net worth 47 times greater than households headed by an individual age 35 or younger.
Women have lost ground to men in the labor market following the 2008-2009 recession, according to a recently published Pew Research Center report. Since the end of the recession in June 2009, men have gained 768,000 jobs while women have lost 218,000 jobs. It marks the first time since the 1960s that men have outgained women in the labor market subsequent to an economic contraction.
