After reviewing a string of emailed resume submissions we received over the weekend I thought I’d share a tip that has been shared many times before but is a good tip to be reminded of. It’s proofread! When you are submitting a resume and cover letter and send an email and a message in the email body you are making your first impression. When you have careless typos and misspelled words in corresponding about the position it gives a really bad impression on the person reviewing and screening your information.

In this highly competitive job market, hiring managers, recruiters and HR are overwhelmed with candidates’ resumes.  While we would like to think that each resume will be thoroughly reviewed, printed out and truly READ, the cold reality is that every resume will first  be scanned by software, with those having the relevant keywords then given a 20 second review at best.

You have your professional resume and cover letter ready to go. You have committed to make a career transition. You are ready to interview and impress your would-be new employer.  You are ready to show them what an asset you would be to them. Now what?
