Today is "Tax Freedom Day" for 2010. This is the day that Americans stop working for the government and start working for themselves (tax wise). It's the day they have earned enough money to pay this year's tax obligations.

Read the informative AP article by Stephen Ohlemacher: Nearly half of US households escape fed income tax

The report finds the recession has reduced tax collections even faster than it has reduced income. It also reveals that tax paying Americans will pay more taxes in 2010 than they will spend on food, clothing and shelter combined.

I hate today. It bothers me like no other day of the year. Don't get me wrong I am not against paying taxes in general. It doesn't even really bother me as much anymore that half of Americans don't pay any income tax. I am grateful to be in a position have good income to be taxed. But when I hear about the government waste on basically a weekly basis in the news I take it personally. I feel my money is being wasted, and I know I'm not alone.
