The U.S. economy added more jobs than expected last month as non-farm payrolls added 103,000 jobs in September, the Labor Department said today. Payroll data for the previous two months were revised upwards by a total of 99,000, indicating that 57,000 jobs were added in August and 127,000 in July. Despite the revisions and the September gain, the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 9.1% for the third month in a row.
