The wealth gap between younger and older Americans has grown to the widest in history, compounded by a prolonged economic downturn that has lessened job opportunities for young adults and saddled them with housing and college debt. According to Census Bureau data released Monday, typical U.S. households headed by a person age 65 or older have net worth 47 times greater than households headed by an individual age 35 or younger.
