A lot fewer women than man used to own life insurance, but no more. According to a recent study by LIMRA, almost 60% of women owned some sort of life insurance in 2010, putting them on par with men.
However, women are still more likely to have inadequate coverage even though nearly 30% earn more money than their husbands. In the study, women’s life insurance coverage was only 69% that of men's, on average.
