Higher depression rates among wealthier nations

New research published this week by the BMC Medicine Journal indicates that depression rates vary according a nation’s affluence. An international team of researchers, using a diagnostic test sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO), polled 90,000 people, across all income levels, from 18 nations. Within the ten higher-income countries surveyed, an average of nearly 15% of the population had suffered from depression at least once in their lives, according to the study. This contrasts with 11% of people from low to middle income countries who had experienced depression.

Last few years were depressing, but better times are afoot

It'sFAs and Depression been all over the internet lately, so you might already have heard: Financial advisor (FA) is high up on the list of careers associated with depression.

That uplifting tidbit was reported in a recent Health.com article listing the top fields in which full-timers are most apt to report an episode of major depression. FA was number 9 on the list. (The top 3 were Nursing Home/Child Care Worker, Food Service Staff, and Social Worker.)
