The top 25 managers in the hedge fund industry earned a combined $14.4 billion in 2011, according to AR magazine’s annual Rich List survey that lists the world’s top-earning hedge fund managers. The total represented a 35% drop from more than $22 billion in 2010 earnings. Still, the top-25 managers averaged $576 million in annual compensation for 2011, down from $883 million in 2010.

President Obama’s $35,800-a-plate fundraising dinner last week on the Upper East Side of New York was conspicuous--not for who was there, but for who did not attend. No-shows included Jamie Dimon, Lloyd Blankfein and Richard Parsons. Some observers believe that Wall Street has spurned Obama for his anti-business rhetoric and “fat cat” references about bankers.
