About one-third of Americans currently use smartphones, and smartphone usage is spread across several demographics, according to a May, 2011 survey, “Smartphone Adoption and Usage,” by Pew Research Center. The survey found that 83% of Americans own a cell phone and, of those, 42% have a smartphone.

While most people buy the iPad for personal use, many financial advisors are seeing its value as a business tool.
Some of the things they like about it: portability, a touch screen, instant-on capability, and downloadable applications for email, web browsing, data access, and document handling. Many advisors say the iPad is ideal to take on the road or bring to client meetings where they can instantly display reports, market data, and up-to-the-minute detail on individual stocks.
