About one-third of Americans currently use smartphones, and smartphone usage is spread across several demographics, according to a May, 2011 survey, “Smartphone Adoption and Usage,” by Pew Research Center. The survey found that 83% of Americans own a cell phone and, of those, 42% have a smartphone.
