Most Americans believe they are financially better off than their parents were at the same age, according to a recent Gallup Poll. In spite of the continuing weak economy, 69% of survey recipients say they are doing better than their parents did at their age. The percentage, though, is down from 74% who expressed the same opinion in a 1998 Gallup survey.

The wealth gap between younger and older Americans has grown to the widest in history, compounded by a prolonged economic downturn that has lessened job opportunities for young adults and saddled them with housing and college debt. According to Census Bureau data released Monday, typical U.S. households headed by a person age 65 or older have net worth 47 times greater than households headed by an individual age 35 or younger.
It could soon be easier for start-up companies to raise capital, the Wall Street Journal reports. According to the Journal, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is moving toward easing decades-old constraints on share issues by private companies like Facebook and Twitter. The steps being considered would help such companies raise money without the increased reporting and other requirements of becoming a public company, the Journal reports.
