Most people feel they are better off than their parents

wealth gapMost Americans believe they are financially better off than their parents were at the same age, according to a recent Gallup Poll.  In spite of the continuing weak economy, 69% of survey recipients say they are doing better than their parents did at their age.  The percentage, though, is down from 74% who expressed the same opinion in a 1998 Gallup survey.

A TD Ameritrade survey of nearly a thousand adults shows that only 10% of the 22- to 34-year-olds — those belonging to Generation Y — see professional advisors as the most valuable sources of financial news and information. A third, or more than three times as many, rely on social media like Twitter for their financial and economic information.
