Whistleblowers reaped record amount last year

whistleblowersWhistleblowers earned a record $532 million in 2011 through private-party lawsuits alleging fraud committed against the U.S. government, according to a study published last Friday by the law firm Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher.  The record amount was $140 million more than whistleblowers recovered in 2010.  Filed under the False Claims Act, the cases enabled the Department of Justice (DOJ) to recover $2.8 billion of $3.02 billion that the government recovered in 2011.
