TD AmeritradeTD Ameritrade announced yesterday that Tom Bradley would replace John Bunch as the company’s new president of retail distribution.  Tom Nally, a 12-year veteran of Bradley’s RIA management team, will take over for Bradley as head of TD Ameritrade Institutional. Bunch, who has been with the company since 2004, resigned his position to take a top leadership role at an investment advisory firm.

Bradley was named as one of the 25 most influential people in the advisor community for 2011, repeating an honor that he also received in 2004, 2006 and 2009 largely for his leadership in overseeing TD Ameritrade Institutional’s custodial business with more than 4,000 independent RIAs.

“Tom Bradley has been a strong member of the TD Ameritrade management team for many years,” said TD chief executive officer Fred Tomczyk.  “He has grown TD Ameritrade Institutional into a major player in the fastest-growing segment of financial services by expanding technology and product offerings and putting clients first.”

Summing up his time as head of the institutional business, Bradley says “My time spent working for independent RIAs, helping them better serve their clients and create successful practices, and supporting the issues that are important to them on a national scale, has been a joy and a privilege.”

“I can’t be more excited about the future of TD Ameritrade Institutional with someone like Tom Nally at the helm,”  Bradley added.

Bradley has been a go-to speaker at industry events as well as a leader in supporting RIAs on legislative and regulatory issues.  He opposed the Security and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) so-called Merrill Lynch rule, a loophole that permitted brokers to give out investment advice if it was incidental to the transaction.

A 25-year veteran of TD, Bradley led the institutional business as it grew 15-fold in 10 years, dispensing invaluable advice to RIAs embarking on life-changing career decisions.

“I am confident that he will put his broad knowledge and determined management style to good use within our retail client organization,”  said Tomczyk.
